1st CLASS MONARCH
These images were created to commemorate the 2012 Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and were derived from an olive brown on white 2000 “Millennium” 1st class used stamp. Prints of a black and white negative image were painted with UV paints of the three primary colours red, blue and yellow for the Queen’s head facing left.

The secondary colours, green, orange and violet were used for the Queen’s head facing right. These prints were then re-photographed under long wave UV conditions followed by printing to give the final A3 sized images. This allows the UV effect to be viewed under normal reflective lighting conditions.

A3 images in primary and secondary colours were combined to create a standard picture (1.22m x 0.81m) which can be viewed under normal reflective lighting conditions.

In order to show that the UV effect works by transmitted light as well as reflected light, transparency images were painted with UV paints, in the same way as the prints, followed by laminating and sticking to a transparent acrylic sheet. A light box was constructed containing both tungsten and UV lights to view the light effects.
