About Outcry and Aside
(J.B. Priestley, who left his stamp on Bradford, and the World)Outcry and Aside is a tribute to J.B. Priestley, whose presence is still felt in Bradford by the imposing statue situated in the centre of the city and depicted in the current used stamp collage impression. He never forgot the city in which he grew up, and even though he lived most of his later life “Down-South,” he kept a beady eye on the developments that took place in Bradford, and was not reticent in voicing his disapproval of certain changes which occurred. He is well remembered for his vehement criticism of the destruction of fine Victorian buildings such as Swan Arcade where he worked as a youth. He was a giant of the literary world and would remember the “old” Alhambra theatre, which is also depicted in the collage. (Outcries and Asides, is a book of short stories published in 1974 in honour of J B Priestley’s eightieth birthday).
